The Story Behind the Role
Given Matera's mission to make property owners happy, how does the Accounting Manager role directly contribute to that mission, especially by bringing improvement suggestions to the Product and Tech team?
That's a fantastic question, and it really gets to the heart of what we do here. While it might seem like 'just accounting' from the outside, your work as an Accounting Manager is incredibly impactful. You're not just crunching numbers; you're the direct link between our platform and our customers' financial clarity. By ensuring their accounting is perfectly set up and explaining their standing, you directly alleviate a major source of stress for property owners. But beyond that, your insights are gold. When you spot a pattern or a pain point, bringing those suggestions to our Product and Tech teams means you're actively shaping the future of our platform, making it even more intuitive and powerful for everyone. It's a truly collaborative environment where your perspective from the front lines drives innovation, ultimately helping us achieve our mission of making property owners genuinely happy.
Matera emphasizes clear career paths and long-term development. Can you tell me more about how individual contributors like an Accounting Manager are supported in their growth, and what kind of environment fosters both learning and fun?
Absolutely, growth and a positive environment are cornerstones of our culture. As an Accounting Manager, you'll immediately see the structure with our defined career paths, which aren't just theoretical – they’re actively used to guide your development. This means regular check-ins, opportunities for training, and mentorship to help you advance your skills, whether it's diving deeper into complex accounting principles or even broadening your understanding of product development. And the 'fun' part? That's just naturally woven into our day. We believe that when people feel valued, supported, and can be themselves – especially with our commitment to diversity and inclusion – creativity flows, and problem-solving becomes a shared, enjoyable challenge. We often have team events, a collaborative office space, and a general appreciation for each other’s contributions. It's about working hard on a meaningful mission, but always remembering to enjoy the journey together.
The role offers flexible hybrid work. How does Matera ensure a cohesive team experience and maintain its 'appreciative environment' when colleagues might be working from different locations?
That's a very relevant point for today's work environment. Our flexible hybrid model is designed to give everyone the best of both worlds – the focused quiet time at home and the collaborative energy of the office. We actively cultivate cohesion through structured check-ins, regular team meetings that are optimized for both in-person and remote participants, and dedicated virtual collaboration tools. We also make an effort to organize regular team events, both on-site in Berlin and sometimes virtual, that aren't just about work but about connecting as people. The 'appreciative environment' isn't tied to a physical location; it's ingrained in how we communicate, provide feedback, and support each other, regardless of where we're working from. We ensure everyone feels heard and valued, making sure no one feels disconnected.
